In the spirit of being productive, moving past my initial, largely "too open," soul-searching, I have removed this post and posted a new Mission Statement for myself going forward.

A supervisor at the job I held for four years during the early 90's told me something once. And for some reason- maybe the new year is a time for a lot of people to reflect on the problems in their lives- you are now the third person today that I've repeated it to. And to be quite honest I wish I had taken this advice to heart myself, back when it was given to me.
The advice is simple.
Family comes first.
Anything which jeopardizes your relationship with your wife is a bad thing. Anything which makes her happier with you is a good thing.
Remember what I told you via email... some people are just out there looking to get a little revenge against all of the "bullies" they've ever had to deal with in their lives, and sometimes they see you as an easy target. Ignore them- they don't play any part in what's really important in your life, and worrying about them is just a waste of mental and emotional effort on your part.

Good choice for your 2007 resolution. I support you and hope you succeed at it. My wife largely falls into the same pattern that you have, although in a slightly lower-tech form. I've worked hard with her make herself more of a priority. She would often help out a person and ultimately feel tired/stressedout/used as a result. On top of that, there is no thanks or recognition for the people she was helping. Often, the problem would just come up again. Which leaves the question "Didn't you learn anything from last time this happened."
In short, I/we resolve to help anybody who needs it. But once we see a repeating pattern that shows there is no improvement, then it's time to direct our energies elsewhere.
